The Float@Marina

The Float@Marina is the world’s largest floating stage located on the water of the Marina Reservoir in Singapore. The floating stadium was built as a temporary venue to held the Singapore National Day Parade every 9th of August since 2007 until the completion of the Singapore Sports Hub at Kallang. The floating stadium is designed to allow events such as sports, concerts, exhibitions and etc. The floating stadium was also chosen as the venue to held the inaugural 2010 Summer Youth Olympics opening and closing ceremonies.
The idea of the floating stadium came about due to the Singapore Government’s evaluation of the temporary stadium to be cost effective. The design of the floating stadium was the combined effort by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the Singapore Sports Council. After the design has been finalised, the main contractor, SembCorp Marine started construction in March 2006 till the April 2007.
The floating stage can hold up to 1,070 tonnes which is the total weight of 9,000 people, 200 tonnes of stage props and three 30-tonne military vehicles while the seating gallery has a seating capacity of 30,000 people.
